Join Mend Metalworks for a hands-on jewelry making workshop in Durango, Colorado, where you'll learn traditional silversmithing techniques while creating your very own one-of-a-kind sterling silver gemstone ring.

We'll begin with the fun part: choosing a stone that speaks to you from a collection of beautiful natural gemstones. From there, I'll guide you through the process of transforming sterling silver sheet and wire into a finished ring, using traditional metalsmithing techniques along the way.

You'll learn to work with a jeweler's saw, solder with a torch, form and size your ring band, fabricate a bezel setting for your stone, and bring it all together with the finishing touches that make a piece truly yours.

No experience necessary. Whether you've always been curious about silversmithing, are looking for a creative experience in Durango, or simply want to spend a day making something beautiful, this beginner-friendly jewelry workshop is for you.

What You'll Learn

• Sawing: Use a jeweler's saw to cut and shape sterling silver.

• Soldering: Learn to use a torch to join metal components.

• Fabrication: Build your own bezel setting from sterling silver sheet and wire.

• Forming: Shape, solder, and size your ring band.

• Stone Setting: Securely set your chosen gemstone in its handmade bezel.

Materials & Customization

Workshop tuition is $220, plus materials.

A $45 standard materials kit includes everything you need to create one sterling silver gemstone ring, including a stone from our curated standard collection, sterling silver for your bezel setting, and a simple ring band.

Want to make it a little more your own? You'll have the opportunity to choose from premium gemstones, decorative ring bands, and additional silver details for an added cost.

All materials will be available to select and purchase on the day of the workshop.

What to Expect

This is a hands-on, beginner-friendly silversmithing workshop, and you'll be doing the making! I'll guide you through each step, demonstrate the techniques, and offer plenty of individual instruction along the way.

We'll be working with metalsmithing tools, including jeweler's saws, torches, and polishing equipment. Expect to get your hands a little dirty, learn something new, and discover how satisfying it is to turn raw materials into wearable art.

Class size is limited to six participants to ensure everyone gets the guidance and attention they need.

This workshop requires a minimum of four participants to proceed. You'll be notified of event confirmation or cancellation no later than three days prior to the workshop. As a small business with limited capacity, I ask that you please review the sales and cancellation policy carefully before registering.

Lunch & Logistics

Lunch is not provided, so please bring your own or plan to grab something nearby. We'll take a quick 30-minute break to refuel and recharge before getting right back to making!

Please wear closed-toe shoes, tie back long hair, and dress comfortably for a day of working with tools and metal.

At the end of the day, you'll head home with a one-of-a-kind sterling silver ring, a new appreciation for the art of metalsmithing, and the satisfaction of saying, "I made this."
