Every Canyon Opens to the Sky | Deschutes Picture Jasper Necklace

Sometimes a stone already knows what it wants to say.

This beautiful Deschutes Picture Jasper holds an entire landscape within it—layers of rust, cream, brown, and gray forming what looks remarkably like a canyon stretching toward the horizon. It's one of the things I love most about picture jasper: every once in a while, you find a stone that feels less like a pattern and more like a place.

I built the sterling silver setting around that landscape, using layered, hand-cut silver to echo the curves and strata within the stone. The result is substantial and dimensional without taking attention away from the jasper itself.

A reminder that even when we find ourselves deep within something; grief, change, uncertainty, whatever canyon life has dropped us into, there is still an opening above us.

I love when stones tell stories. I love even more when those stories have something to say about being human.

The pendant is fixed onto a hand-fabricated sterling silver chain and measures approximately 19" at its longest length. A large sterling silver lobster clasp can be hooked into different links to wear it shorter if desired.
